Best Mobile Racing Games in 2026 (iPhone and Android)

By Giacomo Fava ·

Mobile racing in 2026 looks very different from five years ago. Some giants have gone: Real Racing 3 switched off its servers on 19 March 2026, and F1 Mobile Racing was retired earlier. Meanwhile the survivors have split into clear styles. There is no single “best racing game” anymore. There is a best game for the way you like to race.

We grouped the picks by style. For each one you get who it is for and what to watch out for. Disclosure: we make Pocket GP, which appears in the Formula category.

Arcade: Asphalt Legends

For: fast, spectacular, free arcade racing with friends.

Asphalt Legends (formerly Asphalt 9 and Legends Unite) is still the default answer to “a free racing game for my phone”. It offers hundreds of licensed cars, nitro-fuelled stunts and multiplayer with up to 8 players across platforms. Its TouchDrive mode steers for you while you choose routes and time your boosts, a smart solution to the touchscreen problem.

Watch out for: a heavy free-to-play economy. Braking and racecraft hardly matter.

Open-world street racing: CarX Street

For: tuning, drifting and cruising an open city.

CarX Street focuses on car culture: deep tuning, garage building, drifting and an open world to drive around. Controller support makes it feel like a console game on a phone.

Watch out for: it is big and demanding on storage and battery, and progression takes time.

Story campaign: Need for Speed No Limits

For: a classic NFS campaign with police chases and customisation.

EA’s mobile Need for Speed is still running, with a long campaign, events and plenty of customisation. It is also EA’s last big mobile racer standing.

Watch out for: stamina-style systems and in-app purchases shape the pace.

Drag racing: CSR 2

For: short sessions and perfect gear shifts.

CSR 2 has been around for about a decade and is still updated. A race lasts seconds: the skill is the launch and the shift timing, while the depth is in tuning and the car collection. Visually it still holds up very well.

Watch out for: repetitive in the long run, and the economy pushes upgrades.

Rally: Rush Rally 3

For: a premium, buy-once racing game.

Rush Rally 3 is the best rally game on mobile and one of the few great paid racers left. You get tight handling, varied surfaces and stages and a real sense of speed, with no grinding.

Watch out for: rally only, and it costs a few dollars up front (which is also its strength).

Drift: CarX Drift Racing 3

For: drift fans who love building cars.

The third CarX Drift game adds historical campaigns, deep car construction and customisation, and tandem drifting. If you want to slide, this is the one.

Retro arcade: Horizon Chase

For: 90s nostalgia and pure, simple fun.

A colourful, fast, beautifully designed homage to the arcade racers of the 16-bit era. It is easy to recommend to anyone, even people who “don’t play racing games”.

Formula: Pocket GP and F1 Clash

For: fans of open-wheel racing.

  • Pocket GP (iPhone) is our game, built around one idea: real Formula racecraft with one finger. The low-poly arcade look sits on top of real-world physics: a friction circle, drag and slipstream (up to 45% less drag behind a rival), tyre lock-ups and braking zones computed from the real corner radius. You hold to accelerate, lift to brake and drag to change line. Overtakes come from the tow, late braking and crossover lines. Monza and Barcelona are faithful to the real tracks, and every original circuit is planned. It is free with no ads and no in-app purchases.
  • F1 Clash (iPhone, Android) is the official F1 game: team management and strategy in short 1v1 races, with every real team and driver. You don’t drive, you manage.

The ones that are gone

  • Real Racing 3: delisted in December 2025, servers off since 19 March 2026. It no longer works, even if it is installed.
  • F1 Mobile Racing: retired and delisted.

If a 2026 article still recommends either of them, it is out of date.

FAQ

What is the best racing game for mobile in 2026?

It depends on the style. Asphalt Legends is the most popular free arcade racer, CarX Street leads open-world street racing, CSR 2 is the reference for drag racing and Rush Rally 3 is the best paid rally game. For Formula-style wheel-to-wheel racing with realistic braking and slipstream, Pocket GP is built specifically for one-finger play on iPhone.

Is Real Racing 3 still playable in 2026?

No. EA delisted Real Racing 3 in December 2025 and switched off its servers on 19 March 2026. Since the game required an online connection, it can no longer be played.

Which mobile racing games have no in-app purchases?

Premium games such as Rush Rally 3 are paid once. Pocket GP is free with no ads and no in-app purchases. Most of the big free-to-play racers (Asphalt, CarX, CSR, Need for Speed No Limits) rely on in-app purchases.
