Best F1 Arcade Games in 2026: Formula Racing You Can Pick Up and Play
“Arcade” and “Formula 1” used to mean two different things. Arcade meant nitro boosts and drifting through hairpins; F1 meant a wheel, pedals and a 40-page setup guide. In 2026 the best games in between finally give you the part that makes a Grand Prix exciting, the duel, without asking you to learn to drive a real single-seater.
This list is about games you can pick up and play in a few minutes and that still feel like Formula racing: open-wheel cars, braking zones, slipstreams and overtakes. We are the developers of Pocket GP, which is on the list. We say so up front, and we try to be fair about where other games are better.
How we picked
A game makes the list if it is available to download today and gives you at least two of these three things:
- Formula-style cars: open-wheel single-seaters, not GT cars or street racers.
- Real racecraft: braking points, racing lines, slipstream and wheel-to-wheel overtakes that matter.
- Short, accessible sessions: controls you can learn in a minute and races measured in minutes, not hours.
1. Pocket GP (iPhone): real duels with one finger
Best for: wheel-to-wheel Formula racing on a phone.
Pocket GP has deliberately simple low-poly graphics, but underneath it runs a real-world physics model. There is a friction circle that shares grip between braking and cornering, aerodynamic drag with a slipstream that cuts drag by up to 45%, tyre lock-ups when you brake too hard, and braking zones computed from the real radius of every corner.
The controls fit on one finger: hold to accelerate, lift to brake, drag left or right to change racing line. Steering follows the line, so the whole skill is racecraft. You choose when to brake, whether to take the inside, how to get a tow on the straight, and when to cross back under a rival on the exit.
- Circuits: Monza and Barcelona built from the real track geometry, with every original circuit planned.
- Rivals: “shadows” that reproduce how real players drove each corner, plus AI on three difficulty levels.
- Price: free, no ads, no in-app purchases.
- Weak spots: iPhone only for now, and only two circuits at launch.
2. F1 Clash (iPhone, Android): the official licence
Best for: fans who want the real teams and drivers and enjoy management.
F1 Clash by Hutch is the official Formula 1 game on mobile, updated for the 2026 season. You don’t drive the car directly. You build and upgrade a team, pick drivers and make strategic calls (tyres, pace, pit stops) during short head-to-head races against other players.
- Strengths: official teams, drivers and circuits; quick 1v1 sessions; a deep progression system.
- Weak spots: it is a strategy and management game, not a driving game. It is free-to-play with in-app purchases, and progression is shaped around upgrades.
3. Monoposto (mobile): a classic driving-focused formula racer
Best for: players who want to steer a single-seater themselves.
Monoposto is an independent formula racer that has been around on mobile for years. It offers direct steering (including gyroscope steering), a championship structure and a more traditional racing-game feel. It sits closer to a simulation than the other mobile picks.
- Strengths: you actually drive; full race weekends; a serious feel for the genre.
- Weak spots: steering on a touchscreen takes practice, and it is less of a pick-up-and-play experience.
4. The official F1 series with assists (console, PC)
Best for: the full Formula 1 experience on a big screen.
The annual official F1 games from EA Sports and Codemasters are not arcade games, but with braking assist, traction control and the racing line switched on they become very approachable. They have every official circuit, team and driver, plus career modes.
- Strengths: everything licensed, the most complete package.
- Weak spots: not on phones, and a 20-minute race is not a coffee-break game.
5. Horizon Chase (mobile, console): pure retro arcade
Best for: nostalgia and pure speed.
It is not an F1 game, but Horizon Chase is the best modern take on the 90s arcade racer: colourful, fast, with simple controls. If “arcade” matters more to you than “Formula”, start here. Don’t expect braking zones or slipstream duels.
Gone but not forgotten
If you are looking for these two, they are no longer playable:
- F1 Mobile Racing (Codemasters): retired after its last season and delisted from the stores.
- Real Racing 3 (EA / Firemonkeys): delisted in December 2025, with servers switched off on 19 March 2026. Because the game needed a server connection, installed copies stopped working too.
Many “best racing games” lists online still recommend them, so watch out for outdated rankings.

FAQ
What is the best F1 arcade game in 2026?
For wheel-to-wheel Formula-style racing on a phone, Pocket GP (iPhone) combines one-finger arcade controls with real-world physics: braking zones, slipstream and overtaking lines. For the official F1 licence on mobile, F1 Clash is the reference, but it is a management game with short 1v1 duels rather than a driving game. On console and PC, the official F1 series with assists turned on is the most complete option.
Is F1 Mobile Racing still available?
No. F1 Mobile Racing by Codemasters was retired after its last season and delisted from the App Store and Google Play. Real Racing 3, another popular mobile racer with Formula cars, was delisted in December 2025 and its servers were switched off on 19 March 2026.
Is there a free F1 game for iPhone?
Yes. F1 Clash is free with in-app purchases, and Pocket GP is free with no ads, no in-app purchases and no sign-up.
